This is a young lady I worked with for the past month. She agreed to drop the burka and don a 'gothic' outfit for a shoot with me. She was a pleasure to work with and I hope to do more shoots with her in the future. If you enjoy this image, I have a few more to share with you.

I know this type of photography is out of the norm for me to post here but I figured it was time to put my money where my mouth is. I hope your heart can take it.

Yes, there's a war going on and if I were 10 years younger & in less pain I'd go where I'd be appreciated and head to Kandahar with our troops.

Many thanks for your comments and time...

10/5/2008 1:01:05 PMA most curious juxtaposition indeed... Marvelous... She normally wears a burka you say?
There is a precident for this sort of 'action figure'. . . Tank Girl... whom I've attached.

RPLYPhotographer10/5/2008 1:21:23 PMROTFL No, she only wore a burka as a costume on the job. She's get a laugh out of your Tank Girl action figure! One day, I'll do another shoot with her as she's been wanting another. I best get with it before the snow flies. :)

RPLYPhotographer6/1/2007 3:55:53 PMYes, Fatemeh, you are right. I spoke again yesterday with a few Afghani people and I know how THEY really feel. They have horror stories to tell of what the Taliban has done to their people. hugs, Biz

5/29/2007 6:03:46 PMYes, there are many wars going on...they never end, sadly. If I had one wish...it would not be for money, not for fancy car, or big house overlooking the ocean, but for everyone to love eachother....or perhaps for me to look like this in fishnets...kidding.

Your photography has broadened, expanded, exploded with new ideas and the possiblities are endless. Let's see more of your shoot!!

Wonderful work ma..I've missed ya~K

You may know where I stand on this political stuff and I'm not about to start on the topic now. I agree, for the most part with Maxime and Jan . . . though I'm not sure you don't yourself.

On an artistic note, at least you didn't shoot from an angle where that gun was more pronounced! :P

RPLYPhotographer5/28/2007 2:56:17 PMUhuh I do agree with a lot of what those 2 said...:)) U'd have to be totally brainwashed not see both sides of the fence. I do like using my brain...hehe:)

It is an old tank parked in a special reserve on display. It's just fun to use props when they are available..something that you can't ordinarily do. I have other images that could send out the message 'screw the war' in the same type of scenerio...LOL Luv ya, my friend.

5/26/2007 12:46:45 AMwell,, Biz....this is a sensational photo, .....for all the wrong reasons...the image itself, ok, but with the added details, I hear the propraganda via President Harper, I will not spend any time debating this image.....imo, if you wish to discuss what current global situations are...perhaps read Tarik Ali, or Seymour Hirsch, and many other fine authors...this is not a politcally site, as I have been told, many times :)..it is true, we throw our thoughts and ideas out. and people respond..but sensationalism + a very complicated situation does not add up. Maxime is correct in his facts....FYI..a documentary we got to see, before it was pulled out of the north American tv, and is being suppressed in many countries due to litigation
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/23/1637201...it may not open.....
best regards, and no disrespect to you.....

RPLYPhotographer5/26/2007 1:07:46 AMSandy, I posted this image and didn't expect debates over it. I do respect everything others have said and think it is a friendly debate. In fact, if we all sat in a room together, I think it'd be a calm conversation, respecting each other's thoughts. At least, I feel no malice towards anything that's been said here. I agree that it is an ugly situation and I doubt any one of us could solve it.
I've read the link you gave and, if it is true, it is horrendous! As Maxime says, the media blows things up pretty badly. My heart tells me 2 wrongs don't make a right (I want everyone to know this)...and if war crimes are being performed, THAT must also be stopped. That IS sickening!
After reading your words, I don't feel comfortable discussing this any further. In fact, I almost dedicated this image to Jan...for the fun of it. I liked the results of my photo and don't want to delete it...oh well.

RPLYNot Available5/26/2007 1:13:35 AMfor the fun of it:)...

5/25/2007 11:58:52 PMHi Biz, just got my grandson off to bed and am playing catchup..sound familiar?..:-)...love the image..for sure a little out of the norm for you, but very well done..Her Burka is not what this lady wears on a normal basis..as you put this out there, and reading the comments by Maxime and knowing a little about the situation in that part of the world and what has transpired just since 9-11..even though this problem goes much deeper and has gone on so much longer..I agree with what Maxime has to say...Our mainstream media is not a source of what is actualy happening in the world, and I view it as such. There are many independent sources of news that report the facts much more accurately...As for Afganistan..yes I agree its a sad situation, but it has been long before you or I took our first steps..or our Great Grandparents for that matter..Why are we really there..Just take the time to look at what really happened when the latest conflict started there..Start with the president of Afganistan, look at the first deals that were signed while the craters were still smoking..and then on to Iraq...its not about the people or the land..its whats beneath it or in simpler terms..What do they have..that we need or want..I have to end for now before we hit that magic time on PP when comments vanish..but I will be back..Jan.
RPLYPhotographer5/26/2007 12:28:26 AMHey hunk, so nice to hear your thoughts. I agree with some of what Maxime says, too. I know that country has been riddled with wars for centuries and I also know that it isn't a war over 'religion'. They say oil is money which equals power and everyone seems to want to own it all.
Having worked with and spoken to Afghans from the country, I also know that the main issue for all of THEM is security for their families and themselves. They want peace and safety so they can return home. None of them mentioned resources although I know there's plenty there. I only know what the mission is... for our soldiers about to deploy there this July. Some have been there and are going back for a 2nd time simply because they WANT to. I've grown to love and respect some of those fellas. Surprisingly, they seemed to have admiration for me...who knows why. I hope I never hear a familar name on the news as I know it will rip my heart apart.
I can't tell you much more because of my 'code of confidentiality' agreement. It's so freaking dangerous there and those Taliban must be stopped...some how, some way. It's a good thing I am too old to go there because I'd likely get killed for being some kind of Joan of Arc.
Come back anytime you like...always a pleasure to hear from you:)

5/24/2007 11:39:52 AMI hope you do not mind my honest opinion…
Concerning to technical view it is a creative image… well, no doubt about…
Regarding to your description, we are looking at the world with different eyes… the reality of the war is much dissimilar than the west medina are crying out…
Sincerely: Maxime

RPLYPhotographer5/24/2007 11:59:55 AMThank you for your thoughts, Maxime:) I understand more than one knows about this war, in particular. Although I don't like killings and all that goes with it, I have come to know, personally, how the Afghan people think of what is happening in their own country. I know how much many have suffered at the hands of the Taliban and I HAVE seen the hope in their eyes as they thank the soldiers over and over for giving of themselves. The media does blow things out of proportion but speaking one on one to these people as they described their lives there is something I wish everyone could experience. My heart truly goes out to those unfortunate people.
Thx again, Maxime.

RPLYNot Available5/24/2007 12:39:27 PMI have to confess that I adore any provocation image and you did very well, an art connected with the face of real life… and it is not always easy…

Well my dear… the most common problem in the West is that a) people forget quickly b) people has no time looking after the truth and c) the power of Media do really brain-wash the society much easy than perhaps East…

For instance Afghanistan war….
No one today would talk about who did support, help and encourage Taliban coming to exist and why? In general if you ask an Afghan who lives in West, perhaps would say, yes I am agree with the military over there… (Then my sincerely question would be if it is true, why he does not make self a step…), however I do not believe thee majority of Afghans are agree with the “redeemers” over there! Very simple, because each day even media in West are confessing that the condition over there is going to be worse….

Sorry to say that the West plan for Middle-east and south Asia brought the area not only to a critical condition but many generation will certainly go to pay for that…
Sincerely: Maxime

RPLYPhotographer5/24/2007 1:17:27 PMYes, Maxime, I understand your thoughts. The Taliban come mainly from Pakistan and originated south of Kandahar. We can only hope that the media is again blowing things up by saying it can ONLY get worse. Perhaps, it may for a time...who knows.

Hopefully, in time, things will improve more. These people have been living in medieval times in a barbaric way. There has been some improvement north of Kandahar (more so, north of Kabul) but I can't see complete progress for a long time yet in the country.

Slowly, education is being introduced back and we can only hope it opens up a LOT more for women. There is so much work to do there yet. Reconstruction is a huge project and security is the number 1 issue for all aspects. Raping people of their lives, families, land and a decent future is sick. Medical care is also a priority. I could go on and on, I guess.

You're right...sadly, lives are at stake. BUT, do we look the other way and let the barbarians continue in their ruthless plight? It's not what I feel the majority of the Afghans want. Rome wasn't built in one day and this war-ridden country won't be rebuilt anytime soon, either.
A hug,
Biz

RPLYNot Available5/24/2007 3:27:20 PMYou see dear, it is exactly my point… your honest and sincere mind and feeling guide unfortunately from media… the barbaric mind have to stop… well, no doubt… but how…
The barbaric ideology of Taliban established with the support of CIA during the war against Soviet for an alternative against the Modjahedine… (They were heroes in eyes of many Afghans for fighting against the occupations…) The time the Taliban came in the power many cried out that the group is a fanatic and out of even usual understanding for women’s right…. But the Media in West called the group a democrat and moderate Muslim…

…over 10 years…. Afghanistan was a forgotten land… no news, no even a message did appeared in famous newspaper in West Europe and USA, even though the Amnesty called the condition in Afghanistan “Human’s disasters…!”

No dear, no freedom neither justice you can import… if the hand of USA and West Europe have not been in our region, democracy have been established long before… both Khomeiny in Iran and Sadam in Iraq were supported form West….

You may say, well, it was mistakes… but dear for people in USA and Europe is perhaps just a mistake, for us the result is the tragedy and disaster, that cost the life of dearest family and friends, we lost our blood… well, the truth is we don’t need help, just please go out from the region, we know how we can manage against all dictators…

But I have to mention that so long there is oil there in the Middle East and unsoiled uranium in the Afghanistan’s mountains, forget dear, there is no even a sincere mind of a politician looking for democracy or human right over there… that I am certainly sure…

Hope I did not make sad or disappointed with my words… Maxime

RPLYPhotographer5/25/2007 4:47:29 PMYour words never sadden me...and I'd let you know if they did:) I'd LOVE to see this country given back to the people it rightfully belongs to. They want that help from us. It is what Canadians want, too. I can't speak for any other countries because I just don't know! :))
